National Speakers Bureau
iiFAR has developed a national Speakers Bureau to respond to requests by the media for the patient perspective of this issue. Several iiFAR members have appeared on national television shows such as, Nightline, 48 Hours, Oprah Winfrey Show, Sally Jessy Rafael, Geraldo, CNN Newsmakers, and several local shows. In addition, members of the Speakers Bureau have also provided interviews to national print media. To prepare spokespersons, iiFAR has developed a Speaker Training Kit. This self-paced, home study resource contains the necessary information for becoming a successful spokesperson on behalf of animal research.

The Speakers Training Kit includes the following resources:

  • iiFAR's Issues and Answers
  • iiFAR's Tips To Success When Meeting The Press
  • Animals in Research - A Guide for Presentations & Media Interviews
  • Animals: The Vital Link to Health and Safety (Partners in Discovery) Animal Research & Human Health:
  • Caring for Laboratory Animals (FBR)
  • The Use of Animals in Product Safety Testing (FBR)
  • Understanding the Use of Animals in Biomedical Research (FBR)
  • The Facts About Animal Research, Robert J. White, M.D.
  • Human vs. Animal Rights, Jerod M. Loeb, Ph.D., William R. Hendee, Ph.D., Steven J. Smith, Ph.D., M. Roy Schwarz, M.D

  • Action Network
If you are not comfortable as a public speaker, the iiFAR ACTion Network is for you. Your opinions on animal research are important because the effectiveness of grassroots action is considerable. The iiFAR ACTion Network takes advantage of this by utilizing a grassroots network of individuals who are ready with pen-in-hand to "ACT" on an immediate call to action. Formerly known as the "Scoop Troop," this nationwide network of individuals keeps watch for opportunities, both local and national, to counter anti-animal research messages. By notifying the national iiFAR office with the details, the national office can notify the remainder of the "ACTion Network" with an ACTion Alert.

Past alerts have called for letters of support for targeted researchers and outspoken proponents of animal research, television shows such as the "60 Minutes" coverage of Dr. Michael Cary's research at LSU, and support to airlines for transporting research animals. Other alerts have called for letters expressing dissatisfaction with the portrayal of animal research by television shows and movies.

    Student Information Packets
The animal research issue has become a major topic in schools across the country. Animal rights propaganda is readily available from many well known and easily accessible sources. Unfortunately, sources of factual information regarding the benefits of the responsible use of animals in research are not well known. Several pro-research organizations produce these materials. National iiFAR has assembled these resources into Student Information Packets. Sent at no cost to the student, the information in these packets has been used in debates, research papers, philosophical discussions and even senior thesis papers.
