iiFAR's philosophy can be found in the letters of its acronym. Ideology,
Integrity, Factual, ACTive, and Rational. This philosophy forms the basis for
all iiFAR activities.
Ideology, as defined by Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, is the "manner or
content of thinking characteristic of an individual or class." iiFAR was founded
to provide the patient perspective of the importance of animal research. As
beneficiaries of past research and individuals waiting for future breakthroughs,
iiFAR's voice represents the majority of Americans who believe in the
responsible use of animals in biomedical and behavioral research, teaching, and
testing.
Integrity, moral soundness and honesty, is the principle on which iiFAR programs
are based.
Factual, pertaining to, or containing facts, describes information shared with
the public through iiFAR programs.
ACTive, communicating, or causing action or change, is the reason for iiFAR's
existence. The majority of the public agrees animal research is necessary for
the development of life saving medical breakthroughs. iiFAR programs provide an
opportunity for the public to actively support the responsible use of animals in
research.
Rational, concerned with or characterized by reason, sensible, is a
characteristic of iiFAR's communications efforts. The reality of the personal
experiences of iiFAR members provides a perspective that appeals to the
sensibility of the public.
