I faced many tough shots as a goaltender at Michigan State University.  However, the toughest shot I faced came off the ice when I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

A six month course of chemotherapy put the cancer into remission for three years.  At the age of thirty-three, the cancer re-appeared.

My best chance for a cure was to undergo high dose chemotherapy followed by an autologous bone marrow transplant.

The chemotherapy drugs that save my life were developed and tested using inbred strains of mice susceptible to leukemia.

Dogs were vital to the development of the bone marrow transplant procedure that re-established my immune system.
