About Us - Mission Statement

The incurably ill For Animal Research (iiFAR) was founded in 1985 to provide the patient's perspective regarding the use of animals in biological, medical and behavioral research and testing by establishing a grassroots network of individual members and iiFAR chapters. Through interaction with the general public, we remind people that all medical research and testing is conducted to help society - better, longer lives for people and animals - and that this cannot be accomplished without the responsible use of laboratory animals.

In line with this objective, the mission of iiFAR during the 2000s shall be:

  1. To serve as a nationwide resource for organizations, institutions, individuals and members of the media seeking information about the importance of animals to medical research and its benefits to society;

  2. To develop and distribute educational materials about the use of animals in research to the public through iiFAR members, iiFAR chapters and affiliated organizations; and

  3. To encourage and assist in the planning of pro-animal research events by iiFAR members, iiFAR chapters and affiliated organizations throughout the country.
