About
SSI
SSI is a federal program that provides monthly cash payments
to people who do not have much income or own many things. SSI
is for elderly people, as well as blind or disabled people of
any age, including children.
The Social Security Administration manages the SSI program.
Even though Social Security manages the program, SSI is not
paid for by Social Security taxes.
SSI is paid for by U.S. Treasury general funds, not the
Social Security trust funds.
